LAM CAN CALL ON A TUOHY SOLDIER

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

DAN TUOHY has embarked on a mission to keep Bristol in the Premiership ahead of Pat Lam’s arrival. Tuohy, 31, has left Ulster after seven years to join the moneybags west country outfit, who are on course for a quick return to English rugby’s second tier after last season’s promotion.

Lam dropped a bombshell on Monday when he told the Connacht players he has agreed to become Bristol’s head coach next term.

Nowtuohy, who is Bristol-born and has 11 Ireland caps, will be joining the Kiwi’s revolution after finding his way back into Ulster’s second row a difficult proposition following a series of injury issues.

“When Bristol made the approach, it was only fair that we considered it and the outcome is very suitable for all parties,” said Les Kiss, Ulster’s director of rugby. “We’d like to thank Dan for his contribution to Ulster Rugby and wish him well.”

Tuohy (above) said: “It’s been a privilege and an honour to represent Ulster and Ireland.

“The continued support of those close to me kept me right when things weren’t going my way.

“I’ll always be checking the results and hopefully still come to the odd game. I have a huge hole to fill on Friday nights now but can’t wait for the new challenges that Bristol presents.

“I was raised just down the road, which adds to my excitement.”
