Victim suffers head injuries after street attack and hit-&-run
A MAN suffered serious head injuries after a suspected deliberate hit-and-run incident in the early hours of yesterday.
The victim, who in his 40s, was taken to Mater Hospital for emergency treatment after he was struck at the junction of Hill Street in central Dublin. It’s believed he was hit at 12.20am by a green or blue Audi saloon which left the scene in the direction of Summerhill. Witnesses also said a number of men got out of the car and assaulted the man with weapons. They are then said to have left the scene in the direction of Gardiner Street. A stretch of Parnell Street was closed for a time but reopened yesterday morning between Summerhill and North Cumberland Street. Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to them about this incident to contact officers at Mountjoy Garda station on 01 666 8600. A spokesman said: “We are investigating a hit-andrun traffic collision and an alleged assault on Parnell Street at the junction of Hill Street, which happened at about 12.20am yesterday. “A man in his 40s was discovered with serious injuries following the incident. “He was removed by ambulance to The Mater Hospital. We believe the man was struck by a green or blue Audi saloon car which left the scene in the direction of Summerhill. “Witnesses also allege that a number of men got out from this car and assaulted the man. “Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact to this incident or anyone with information to them at Mountjoy Garda station on 01 666 8600.”
