KEL MUST DO SOME OF THE VARD WORK
CRAIG SHAKESPEARE hopes new £25million hitman Kelechi Iheanacho can ease the burden on Jamie Vardy. England striker Vardy has scored three times already this term for Leicester in the Premier League. He has half of City’s six goals and is set to lead the line at Huddersfield today. But big-money summer signing Iheanacho, bought from Manchester City, is now finally fully fit and pushing for a start alongside Vardy. The 20-year-old has an impressive top-flight record with 12 goals in 48 games for City, despite 34 of them being as a substitute. Boss Shakespeare said: “We all know about Kelechi, in terms of his pace and goalscoring prowess, but also his team play and link-up play is very good. “Kelechi’s record is very good and I am sure, when he gets his opportunity, the idea is for him to continue in that vein. “It would be nice to think we could share the goals. That is the aim. “We have targets for the centre-backs and the fullbacks, as well as the midfielders. “We are having those conversations and it is getting through to the team that we want to share the goals. “It is important that everyone else contributes as well.” Nigeria star Iheanacho (above) has made two sub appearances for Leicester, against Arsenal and Chelsea. But he played 80 minutes for the club’s Under-23 side on Monday, when he scored in a 3–1 win over West Ham. Shakespeare said: “Kelechi grew into the game and scored a welltaken goal. I think he will really benefit from the 80 minutes he got.” After three defeats this season, Iheanacho hopes to help Leicester climb the table. The striker said: “It would be a big boost for us to get three points. “We’re down there at the bottom but that’s not what we want. “We’re playing well and doing well in every game, but the points are not coming. “That’s what we need to put in place to make sure that we get three points against Huddersfield.”
