WORKS VITAL.. BUT WE’LL TRY TO BE CLEARER
Barry Kenny IARNROD Eireann told the Irish Mirror the disruptive works were essential to improve travel times.
Spokesperson Barry Kenny said: “The timetable would have said one change – and you can expand when booking to see what it is.
“I’ll have a look to see if it can be highlighted more clearly.
“But ultimately it was about improving track and journey times.
“From next Sunday on we are going to see an improvement on Cork and Limerick services.”
When asked why works aren’t conducted during the night, he said: “The vast majority of work we do is overnight.
“But on such a scale some disruption to services is not taken lightly – it’s about safely improving the service.
“Sometimes if you’re replacing entire track sections or other works you have to close the line. If we have to replace a bridge for example it would be impossible in a few hours.”
Insisting they will work to ensure travellers are made more aware of disruptions, he added: “When we have planned works, it is highlighted a few weeks in advance, but we will review it.”
On the lack of compensation when journey times are disrupted, he said: “If you are delayed in an unplanned manner we issue catering.
“But when it’s planned works we try to make the information available and customers can decide to travel or not.”
Speaking about the lack of transparency in relation to the amount of bus transfers on this particular journey he admitted it “should have been made clearer”.
