RANGERS have opened talks aimed at extending teenage star Ross Mccrorie’s contract beyond May 2019.

The delay in appointing a new manager has not interfered with the club’s desire to hang onto the talented 19-year-old who has made a massive impact in his first 10 top team games this season.

Gers interim boss Graeme Murty – whose charges came from behind on Saturtday to defeat

Ross County 2-1 – revealed last night that talks have started with Mccrorie’s representatives in a bid to tie up the defender.

Murty said: “I think that [a new contract] is being discussed behind the scenes and you will have to talk to the decision makers with that. But he appears happy, he appears settled and I don’t think there are many things he would want to walk away from this football club for.

“I think it would be for the benefit of all for those discussions to be brought to a close.”

Mccrorie limped off injured at the weekend but Murty hopes he will be available for Wednesday’s trip to Easter Road.

He said: “It [the injury] is on the bottom of his foot. Touch wood, I hope he will be ready for Wednesday. We will wrap him up and send him off home.”

County took a shock lead at Ibrox with just 10 minutes played through Craig Curran.

Alfredo Morelos climbed off the bench to equalise in the second half before defender Danny Wilson headed in a late, late winner to grab all three points.
