Daughter-in-law rushed to hospital after substance sent to Donald Jr
US President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law was taken to hospital yesterday after opening a letter containing a suspect white powder.
Emergency services were called to an apartment in New York owned by Donald Trump Jr’s wife Vanessa, who reportedly said she was “coughing and feeling nauseous”.
Vanessa, 40, and two other people, including her mother, were taken in for observation.
The Secret Service were informed and a spokesman said: “We are investigating a suspicious package addressed to one of our protectees received today in New York.”

Emergency services were called to an apartment in New York’s Manhattan owned by Donald Trump Jr’s wife Vanessa.
Mrs Trump reportedly said she was “coughing and feeling nauseous” after opening the letter, which contained white powder and was addressed to Donald Jr.
Police said they found the substance was not hazardous and Mrs Trump did not appear to be physically affected by it.
But she and two other people were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center for observation, including Vanessa’s mother. The Secret Service were informed and a spokesman said: “The Secret Service and our law enforcement partners in NYC are investigating a suspicious package addressed to one of our protectees received today in New York.
“This is an active investigation and we cannot comment.”
The Fire Department of New York were called to the building shortly after 10am local time.
Police and other emergency units remained on the scene on East 54th Street and the apartment was later decontaminated.
Donald Jr, an executive at the Trump Organisation, gave up his Secret Service detail in September as he wanted greater privacy. His security was reactivated around a week later, without explanation.
