Hands off! Poch to win new Spurs deal

- BY JOHN CROSS Chief Football Writer

TOTTENHAM are ready to offer Mauricio Pochettino a new deal to ward off possible suitors for their manager.

Pochettino still has three years of his contract to run, but with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-germain casting glances in his direction, the Spurs hierarchy is keen to reward him for the club’s progress since he took charge.

The 45-year-old Argentinian (right) has established himself as one of the best

young bosses in Europe. He signed a five-year deal in 2016 and Tottenham are under no pressure to begin negotiations on another.

But given the interest from France and Spain – with the possibility of a move by Real becoming a concern – acting soon would nip that in the bud.

Chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear he wants Pochettino to stay for the long-term and lead the club into their new 62,000-seat stadium. And although Spurs remain confident he will remain, a fresh contract would be a clear sign of commitment.

Pochettino revealed Ryan Mason, who retired as a Hull player this week because of a skull fracture, has a future in the game. He said: “The door is open to help him; myself, the coaching staff and the club, because we love him and all his family.”
