Meghan and Harry in ‘racist’ anthrax threat White powder with vile letter sent to couple
ON HARRY AND MEGHAN LETTER THREAT
MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry have been sent racist hate mail containing white powder purporting to be anthrax.
Counter-terror officers were called in after the package sparked a security alert at Kensington Palace, where the engaged couple live.
The powder was found to be harmless but the incident is being investigated as a racially motivated crime.
Actress Meghan, 36, and Harry, 33, have been informed.
It is the first security alert surrounding
Harry’s fiancee, who has her own armed squad from the Met’s
Royalty and Specialist
Protection Command.
The letter was intercepted after arriving at St James’s Palace this month, the day before the couple went to Edinburgh for their most recent public appearance.
It will be examined for forensic clues such as DNA and fingerprints.
Police are thought to be investigating a possible link to a package containing white powder sent to Parliament, reportedly to the office of Home Secretary Amber Rudd. That was also found to be harmless.
Scotland Yard said: “Police are investigating after a package containing a substance was delivered to St James’s Palace on Monday, 12 February. The substance was tested and confirmed as non-suspicious.
“Officers are also investigating an allegation of malicious communications relating to the same package, and it is being treated as a racist hate crime.
“The matter is being investigated by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. No arrests; enquiries continue.”
It came as Jo Marney, lover of former UKIP leader Henry Bolton, said messages in which she said Meghan would “taint” the royal family were never meant to be made public and “don’t reflect” her views.
Royal security officers are already on high alert ahead of Harry and Meghan’s wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19, focusing on potential threats ranging from stalkers to possible terrorist attacks.
