He refuses radio request.. and admits he was dole cheat

- BY BLANAID MURPHY and NIALL O’CONNOR

THE husband of missing Tina Satchwell yesterday refused to take a lie detector test on radio.

Richard Satchwell turned down the request from Cork REDFM, saying: “I need a rest.”

And he said he had promised “another person in the media” that if he took a test it would be with them.

He also admitted being jailed for a month in 2003 for dole fraud. Gardai were yesterday still searching for the body of Tina, 45, in a Cork woodland.

THE husband of missing Tina Satchwell yesterday yesterday insisted: “I have nothing to hide.”.

Richard Satchwell spoke after refusing a radio station’s offer for him to take a lie detector test.

Tina, 45, vanished without a trace from her home in Youghal, Co Cork, on March 20 last year.

Mr Satchwell is continuing back-toback media interviews as the search for Tina goes on – and has consistently denied he had anything to do with her disappearance.

During a live interview on The Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s REDFM yesterday, he was asked to take a lie detector test – but refused.

He has previously said he would be willing to take one. Speaking to TV3 in July 2017, he said: “If I was asked to take a lie detector test I would take one.

“My house was searched without my knowledge and the gardai didn’t find anything.

“I live on a main street, so my comings and goings are seen. So you know, I don’t know why people are being so malicious. I’m innocent.”

But when asked on air, Mr Satchwell replied: “I’ve had no sleep in a week. I’ve been up and down to Dublin. I need a rest. I need a break.”

He explained he had promised “another person in the media” if he took a lie detector test it would be with them. He also told TV3 news yesterday: “I’ve got nothing to hide. I’m not sleeping too well. I don’t suppose I’ll sleep much until the search in Mitchel’s Wood is finished.

“When I feel right I will contact yourself and arrange to take a lie detector test.

“I will put on record that in the future, not today, not tomorrow but when I feel right, I will contact you.”

Mr Satchwell, originally from England, confirmed in the same interview he spent a month in prison here for welfare fraud in 2003.

He also discussed difficulties in his relationship with Tina. He said: “She was a great woman and I’ve not got a bad word to say about her. She could have a flash temper.”

Last week, he said he no longer believes he is a suspect in the investigation into his wife’s disappearance.

He added: “They’ve not voiced it [that I am not a suspect] but their actions are different.”

Mr Satchwell had gone on an errand to Dungarvan on the day Tina disappeared, and she was not at home when he returned.

He thought she had gone away to deal with personal problems and did not alert gardai for four days.

Last Monday, officers launched a search of Mitchel’s Wood outside Castlemartyr in East Cork after a telephone tip-off about movement.

It is expected to run for three weeks.

I just don’t suppose I’ll sleep until the search in Mitchel’s Wood is over RICHARD SATCHWELL REDFM YESTERDAY
