Planning to have same problems..

Can you match catchphrases to comic or show in our quiz?

- BY RHIAN LUBIN

THE St Patrick’s weekend promises a feast of sport but we are unlikely to see as spectacular an own goal as the one scored by the Taoiseach in Washington.

After what appeared to be a very successful meeting with President Trump, Leo Varadkar inexplicably embroiled himself in a controversy which has completely overshadowed his trip.

His claim he may have helped Donald Trump prevent a wind farm near his Doonbeg golf course by intervening in the planning process was the biggest political clanger of recent years.

Already comparisons are being made between the Taoiseach’s comments and Pee Flynn’s infamous “three houses” claim on The Late Late Show.

To add to the confusion it is now being claimed no such contact was made with Clare County Council which makes Mr Varadkar’s boast even more ludicrous.

The Fianna Fail leader was quick to ask for the details of his intervention on behalf of Trump.

But Micheal Martin and his party will also have explaining to do after it emerged former Taoiseach Brian Cowen appears to have intervened in the planning process over another wind farm.

This country has an appalling reputation when it comes to planning and after the latest reputations the public can be forgiven for believing that little has changed.

ENTERTAINMENT giants Jim Bowen and Sir Ken Dodd may be gone, but their catchphrases will surely never be forgotten.

Knotty Ash’s most famous son, Ken, who died on Sunday, aged 90, kept his fans, well, in knots, brandishing his tickling stick and joking: “How tickled I am!”

Jim was “super, smashing, great!” until he died on Wednesday, aged
