INNOCENT

TV3, 9pm

DAVID Collins is a man on the edge. He’s been in prison for seven years, serving a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his wife Tara, but has always protested his innocence.

This is the premise behind this new drama that is instantly gripping as we see David (Lee Ingleby) nervously awaiting the outcome of his third appeal trial.

When the jury fails to reach a verdict – again – David is unexpectedly acquitted on a technicality and released. The news is a blow to Tara’s sister Alice (Hermione Norris) and her husband Rob (Adrian Rawlins), who have been raising Tara and David’s two children, Jack and Rosie, as their own.

As David tells waiting press that he plans to find Tara’s killer and fight to get his children back, Alice is horrified, his kids are terrified and we are just not sure whose side we are on.

Everyone thinks David did it, except for his loyal brother Phil (Daniel Ryan) who had mounted a tireless campaign to prove his innocence. But, of course, there is a seed of doubt.

As the murder case is reopened, we follow the police detectives hunting for new evidence.

You will want to know what happened seven years ago, but of course the details are drip-fed to us slowly. Everyone is a suspect and everyone has a secret.

The good news is, this is on every night until Thursday’s finale, so you won’t have to wait too long for answers.
