Dublin bus stop A YOUNG man with Down syndrome was allegedly mugged at a bus stop last week.

The victim, 26, was waiting in the Cookstown area of Tallaght, South Dublin, when he was allegedly approached by a man who took his phone.

The young victim did not sustain any injuries but was said to be very shaken after what happened.

Local Louise O’reilly, whose daughter also has Down syndrome, told the Irish Mirror: “He was at his bus stop and someone jumped him and took his phone.

“He was very shaken up. His mam and dad have taken him away for a few days.

“It’s very sad because it will take a while for him to go out by himself now.

“It takes a lot of training. But hopefully he will get his confidence back. He is such a lovely chap.

“He doesn’t bother anyone.

“He is so gentle, kind and funny. A heart of gold.” A TRUCKER who killed a young mother on a motorway hard shoulder walked free from court yesterday.

Nicola Kenny, 26, died instantly just a day after the birth of her first child Lily Rose on September 5, 2016.

She was being driven to Temple Street Hospital by her aunt, with her mother Ann also in the car.

They pulled into the M8 hard shoulder to take a call from the hospital to say the new baby was doing fine.

A lorry driven by Ciaran Mcbride and travelling in the same direction crashed into the back of the car after he is suspected of having fallen asleep at the wheel.

Nicola, from Thurles in Co Tipperary, died at the scene while her mother was injured and her aunt spent months in hospital with serious injuries.

Mcbride, 33, of Tivenmara Road in Keady, Co Armagh, pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death and serious injury.

Clonmel Circuit Court was told the crash was attributed to “driver error”.

Mcbride’s lawyer Philip Sheahan claimed his client had a “fit of sneezing” just before the crash.

The court was told Mcbride left his home at 4.30am and drove hundreds of miles before ploughing into the car at 12.25pm between the Cahir and Cashel
