No hiding for awful Offaly
FAIR play to Wicklow and John Evans for conjuring a rare Championship win having finished second bottom of Division
Four.
Special mention too for goalkeeper Mark Jackson, who scored a remarkable 0-7 and saved a penalty.
It’s wrong that they must play Dublin in Portlaoise, however. If Aughrim only holds
8,000 then play the game there.
What an occasion that would be.
A lot of the fallout from the game surrounds Offaly, though.
If the alleged unrest in their dressing room at halftime actually happened, then Nigel Dunne – having been taken off in the first half before being reintroduced – should never have been put in the position to take the penalty he ultimately missed.
Former Offaly player Alan
Mcnamee posted a tweet having a pop at the manager
Stephen
Wallace (above) and he’s entitled to his opinion.
But it’s not right when that tweet is liked by several current Offaly players and hints at something toxic in the set-up. There are a lot of damn good footballers not playing for Offaly and there’s obviously something seriously wrong.
You have to get your appointments right and, not for the first time, it looks like the Offaly board has completely messed up on this one.
