KENNY DELIGHT WITH A DERRY GOOD DISPLAY
STEPHEN KENNY was thrilled with Dundalk’s cutting edge in attack after a show of strength in Derry.
And he feels his young gunslingers have the ammunition to fire the Lilywhites towards the league title.
Dundalk reclaimed top spot in the table after a convincing come-from-behind
4-1 win at the Brandywell on Monday.
Kenny was inflicting a first home defeat of the season on his former club at their redeveloped ground.
Red-hot Michael Duffy ran riot against his old team and sealed the win with the third goal but Robbie Benson and Jamie Mcgrath were also exceptional.
Kenny said: “Derry controlled the game initially and we’re not used to that but we had a cutting edge to our play and we looked very dangerous.
“We scored some very, very good goals and that’s credit to the players.
“We’ve rebuilt the team after winning three league titles and you can see the progression of those young players.
“You can see just how good they are after taking time to settle last season.”
Brian Gartland opened Dundalk’s account with a headed goal from a corner but Kenny said: “We’ve not been scoring the number of goals from set pieces that we’re capable.”
And the Dundalk boss is refusing to get too carried away with one victory ahead of Friday’s trip to Bohemians.
Kenny added: “You’re always vulnerable after a big win and Bohs have had a full week to prepare so they’ll be waiting for us.”
