MCCORRY SAYS CRITICISM OF MCGEENEY IS UNFAIR
JIM MCCORRY has defended Kieran Mcgeeney’s record as Armagh manager as he seeks his first Ulster Championship win this weekend.
Now in his fourth season in charge, Mcgeeney has won promotion from Division Three twice, with a relegation in between, and guided the team to the All-ireland quarter-final last year. His record in Ulster has been dismal, however, with Armagh, Cavan and Down sending them packing in the first round in successive years.
Tomorrow evening, they travel to Brewster Park to face Fermanagh, who came up from Division Three with them this year.
Former Down and Armagh boss Mccorry is now part of Mcgeeney’s backroom team.
He said: “I think a lot of people are very unfair to Kieran and I am not saying that because Kieran played for me when I was manager and we now work together on the training pitch.
“Even before I joined him this year I felt a lot of people personalise things when it comes to Kieran Mcgeeney.
“You can see his track record. Ok, he has not had any Championship success in terms of silverware but progression he has made with the squad of players over the four years, he has done a tremendous amount of work.
“He is very dedicated, works very hard. He would probably cringe at the idea of me defending him to the media.”
