TEENAGER HELD OVER CAMERON

Evidence led to field murder arrest

A TEEN suspect has been arrested by gardai investigat­ing the murder of Cameron Reilly.

The 18-year-old boy was lifted by detectives yesterday morning and was being questioned at Drogheda Garda station.

Cameron’s body was found in a field near the village of Dunleer, Co Louth, on May 26. A postmortem determined he had been strangled.

A source said: “This has been meticulous process for investigat­ors.

“They worked very carefully through the evidence and once they received forensic evidence they moved on a suspect.

“There had been a lot of theories about who may be a suspect, there was some mention of a boyfriend and a Co Louth. The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Drogheda Garda station.”

Cameron was killed after a night out with pals in a field used by young adults to go drinking.

He was murdered in an area of that field and his body was found the next morning by a man walking Flowers in Dunleer his dog.

Gardai had received support from the local community but some of the youngsters who were in that field were too fearful to come forward. girlfriend but the evidence has elsewhere.

“It is believed he died as a result of an argument with someone well known to him.”

Detectives can question the 18-year-old suspect 24 hours with extra time given for rest periods.

A Garda statement said: “As part of the investigat­ion into the death of Cameron Reilly that occurred on 26th May, 2018 in Dunleer, Co Louth, gardai from Drogheda have this morning, Friday 15th June, 2018 arrested an 18-year-old male in Dunleer, led Weeks of searches were carried out with soldiers hunting for clues, including Cameron’s missing phone.

A local pond, or reservoir, was drained and teenagers in the area handed over their mobiles to gardai to help them find the killer.

Parish Priest Fr Murtagh described Cameron’s murder as “evil” at the teenager’s funeral.

He said the entire community has been stunned by what has happened.

Fr Murtagh added: “This community has been shocked, stunned and deeply saddened. This is unpreceden­ted, we’ve never had to deal with this kind of incident before.”

The Parish Priest said everyone who knew Cameron was aware he was a “very quiet young man” .
