Family pays tribute after Spain balcony fall teen dies

THE family of tragic Jack Walsh who died after falling from a hotel balcony in Mallorca have paid tribute to the “wonderful young man”.

The 19-year-old triplet’s life support machine was turned off at Son Espases University Hospital in Spain on Thursday.

His heartbroke­n family had travelled from their home in Askeaton, West Limerick, to say their final goodbyes.

And in a touching tribute to her son, mum Sandra revealed they donated his organs to save other lives.

She wrote on Facebook: “Our lives will never be the same.

“The support we have received as a family has been amazing and is a true reflection of what a wonderful young man Jack turned out to be.

“Jack ticked the donor box on his learner license and it is a comfort knowing people are alive today as a result of Jack’s tragic accident. Thanks to everyone for all words and wishes.

“Your support is really appreciate­d at this sad time.

“Our hearts are broken. Sandra, Tony, Jack, Tara & Orla Walsh.”

Jack fell from a hotel balcony last Tuesday morning after arriving at the holiday resort just hours earlier.

Days beforehand he sat a Leaving Cert exam paper at Colaiste Mhuire Askeaton and was celebratin­g finishing his studies by joining his friends on the Balearic island.

His parents Tony and Sandra the kind and triplet sisters Tara and Orla had travelled to be with him in his final moments.

Several sources confirmed they are making arrangemen­ts to bring his remains home.

Mr Walsh’s family are well known in local football circles.

Askeaton Soccer Club shared a touching tribute on Facebook, writing: “To Be Forever Remembered, Forever Missed.

“Askeaton AFC sends its condolence­s to the family and the many friends of local lad Jack Walsh who tragically passed away. May he rest in peace.

“Words cannot express our deep sadness at the passing of Jack.

“May the comfort of God, relatives and friends help the Walsh family through these difficult times.”

Secretary of Askeaton AFC described Mr Walsh as a “key player” in their youth soccer side and said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his parents and his sisters.”
