Enright’s a blow for Kingdom
SHANE ENRIGHT will be absent from the Kerry backline for the Munster SFC final against Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday week.
Kingdom boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice has revealed that Enright’s ankle is not yet right following surgery. “It’s probably a week too soon for him,” said Fitzmaurice.
That news comes as a blow to the Kerry supremo, who had hoped to have the All-star defender back in harness in time for the provincial decider.
Mikey Geaney is also a cause for concern as he is in a race to be fit for the final, but on a more positive note Fitzmaurice has confirmed that Donnchadh Walsh, Killian Young and Daithi Casey will all be available. We’re a week out from the game so hopefully we pick nothing up in the meantime,” said Fitzmaurice, whose new-look side hammered Clare by 22 points in the recent provincial semifinal.
“There’s good depth there. I think most seasons, to be honest, we’ve had fairly deep panels. In 2014 and 2015, the panels were very strong.
“There was serious competition just to get into the 26. I think you need that if you are going to be successful. If you can make the Super 8s, you are going to need that depth.
“We’ve seen it with the Munster hurling championship. A lot of things can happen in those couple of weeks.
“There’s going to be serious competition for places, be it the starting 15, lads coming in as subs or making the 26. That makes our job tougher – that’s a great position to be in.”
