Pensioner beaten to death in ‘personal dispute’

Joe O’callaghan was found dead inside the door of his home at Galway’s Lane, Douglas, Cork by his wife Angeline. He was found clothed from the waist down.
Multiple sources confirmed a 22-year-old man arrested over the murder of 66-year-old Joe was known to the dead man.
One said; “It now appears a personal dispute is at the centre of this murder. They interviewed a man at length and have gone to the DPP to determine what is the next course.
“One of the areas that is critical to progressing the case to a charge is the forensics and CCTV from the area.
Critically a neighbour said he heard a man shouting “open the f***ing door” at around 1am on the day of the incident. A source added: “That puts a very definite time line on this event and helps gardai with their probe.
“Neighbours had experienced a lot of anti-social behaviour in the area and at first thought this was just another similar incident.
“Huge progress has been made in finding what exactly took place.”
