MEN Behaving Badly’s original cast are desperate to make a new series, says one of its stars, Neil Morrissey.

And – 20 years after the last one ended – a source close to the writer says there have been talks about a script.

The sitcom ran for six series in the 1990s – with Morrissey, 56, and Martin Clunes, 56, as boozy flatmates Tony and Gary. Leslie Ash, 58, and Caroline Quentin, 57, starred as their girlfriends Debs and Dorothy.

Neil said: “Martin and I and Caroline always say that we want Men Behaving Badly to come back.”

Original writer Simon Nye, who is working on the fourth run of The Durrells, yesterday told the Mirror: “Never say never.”

And a source close to him said: “Discussions have taken place.”

Talking at the RHS Hampton Court Palace flower show, Neil added: “If Simon comes up with something brilliant I’ll obviously do it and I’m sure Leslie would be on board.

“I’m sure everybody would.”

Men Behaving Badly portrayed the lad culture of the 90s, but Neil said that Tony would still behave just as badly today, despite the new “Me Too” environment.

He said: “The whole point about him and Gary is that they never move on and they are still going to be misogynistic idiots today.”

And he joked: “Martin’s character had a baby before the end of the series, so there will be some 18-year-old kid who I can send down the off-licence for me.”

Talking about Leslie Ash and her role in the show, he added: “Leslie is not as mobile as she used to be...we will have to ask her about it.”

In 2004, the actress suffered a superbug. Four years later she was paid out a record €5million NHS compensation. She has since starred in Holby City, from 2009 to 2010.
