Director Danny Boyle quits Bond in spat over ‘creative differences’

- BY ASHLEIGH RAINBIRD Diary Editor CHRIS HUNNEYSETT

DANNY Boyle has pulled out of directing the next James Bond film citing “creative differences”, producers said yesterday.

Bond bosses insisted it was the Oscar-winning director’s own decision to quit the 25th movie in the 007 franchise.

The film’s producers and star tweeted yesterday: “Michael G Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig [announce] that due to creative differences Danny Boyle has decided to no longer direct Bond 25.” Danny’s spokeswoman declined to comment.

The director, 61, previ- DANNY Boyle was an inspired choice to direct Bond 25 – a proud Brit with an international, Oscar-winning pedigree.

After the sumptuous sprawl of the last film, Spectre, his effervescent style would have shaken things up perfectly.

But, although he was worked with massive stars such as Leonardo Dicaprio, his track record is in smaller films and he lacks experience on epic productions such as Bond.

Plus, Boyle loves to call the creative ously worked with Daniel, 50, for a 007 skit with the Queen at the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.

Bond scriptwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade – who wrote Spectre and Skyfall – are said to have completed a screenplay for the latest film.

But when Danny signed up, reports claimed he and his Trainspotting writer John Hodge began working on a different script. Danny said this year: “John and I have got this idea, and John is writing it. And it all depends on how it turns out.” Shooting on the new 007 film is due t o begin in December, with release scheduled for October next year.

When Danny was confirmed in May, a Bond statement read: “We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing.” MIRROR FILM CRITIC shots, which isn’t possible when producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson reign supreme.

While outlandish in story, Bond films are simple in form, whereas Boyle loves to play with colour, montage and music.

Presumably, the director had creative ideas that were too extreme for the 007 producers’ more traditional tastes.
