second marriage. After her first marriage to Shane Richie, the father of sons Shane Jr and Jake, ended, a break-up was not something she wanted to face again.
SBut with Ray, she felt she couldn’t continue after they grew irreparably apart. he admits: “The last couple of years have been horrendous. It didn’t even get nasty but it was like being with a lodger and I didn’t want to settle. “He was angry at me because I wasn’t happy, I wanted to work it out but he wouldn’t go to counselling, he was quite happy to amble along and I wasn’t. It’s lonelier to be with someone who you had something with and it’s not there now.”
However in recent months their friendship has clicked again and Ray even stays over sometimes, albeit in the spare room. She says: “Now we have finally accepted that it’s done and he has moved out we are getting on so well. “We have realised we do make each other laugh but there is no attraction there. “He would probably be the first person I would call up and go, ‘I’m really struggling’.”
Although the sale of their home is sad, she hopes it will help their relationship in the future. She says: “It’s a new start. When Ray comes round to the new place I hope it won’t feel weird, like the house we used to share.”
But for all her new zest for change, there is one plunge Coleen is yet to take. Dating.
So the single farmers and vets out there are yet to learn they are exactly what this Nolan is “in the mood” for.
She shakes her head as she says: “I have not dated one person. I don’t really meet anyone. I go to work and go home and I’m not really a going-out person. I love my horses and dogs.
“At work the people on the show are so young. I’m like their granny. “And most of the musicians on the tour are 20 so that’s not going to happen! I have a motto in life, I can’t date anyone I could have given birth to.
“Shane’s 30 this year. Definitely no younger than Shane and older really, 40s and above.”
Perhaps she should have another sign made for the kitchen?
The first has already made a big impact. And the second certainly wouldn’t rule out Supervet. But before that she’s off on the road to experience singing solo – let’s just hope she doesn’t fall for another up-allnight musician.
