Tears for pensioner killed in hit-and-run
2 more die in separate crashes
Danny Brosnan, 76 TRIBUTES were yesterday paid to a pensioner killed in a hit-and-run during a spate of fatal crashes.
He lost his life hours before a man and a woman died in two further separate collisions.
Danny Brosnan, 76 from Co Limerick, was found dead at the scene about 100 yards from his home on Sunday night.
The father of five had gone for an evening stroll when he was critically injured.
Ballingarry parish priest Fr Dan Lane offered his “deepest sympathies” to the relatives of the “well-known” victim.
He said: “I prayed over him and I gave him his Last Rites.
“He regularly walked and he had a lovely dog who he nearly always took with him.”
“I’d often meet him and have a chat. A lovely, lovely man.
Hours before the tragedy Mr Brosnan had visited the Knockaderry GAA club to see Limerick’s All-ireland-winning hurling team parade the Liam Maccarthy Cup. Meanwhile, a woman was killed in a second fatal accident early yesterday.
The two-car crash happened on the M1 between Junctions 10 and 11 at around 1.20am.
The victim was alone in the car when she was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
She was taken to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in nearby Drogheda, Co Louth, where she later died.
The woman driving the second vehicle was uninjured during the road accident.
Elsewhere, a man died yesterday following a singlevehicle crash outside Tullamore, Co Offaly, at about 3.20pm.
It’s understood the victim was driving a van that collided with a wall on the Ballingar Road.
The carpenter and builder, from Ballycommon and who is thought to have been in his 60s, died at the scene.
Councillor Martin O’reilly said: “There will be a lot of people in the area that will be saddened to hear the news.”
