I’LL NOT TYR OF WINNING

Jack: Four-in-row glory our greatest achievement

- BY PAT NOLAN

JACK MCCAFFREY says Dublin overcame their “biggest ever challenge” against Tyrone to seal the four-in-a-row.

With Dublin 1/6 favourites ahead of the final,

Mccaffrey explained how his father and former Dublin star Noel was apprehensive in the build-up to the game – particularly with his son having picked up a serious injury in last year’s final.

Mccaffrey (left) explained: “He’s been a bag of nerves for the last couple of days. If anyone wasn’t underestimating Tyrone it was the Mccaffrey household. He has just been all over the place. Every year it seems that an

brings a slightly different dynamic to it. And this year, I finished training on Tuesday and I got a call from Dad asking did I get hurt, was I fine, was I alright?.”

Mccaffrey (inset, yesterday) sought out his father, who won League and Leinster honours with Dublin as well as an All Star but no All-ireland, following the final whistle on Sunday and they shared an emotional embrace.

“He’s the first man I look for as soon as the final whistle blows. I’ve photos with him after every All-ireland final we’ve won.

“Basically what I was hearing every day was that this was this Dublin team’s biggest ever challenge. And I agree with him, to be honest. “The last time I remember coming into a game as hot as that was Donegal in 2014 when everyone was saying, ‘Jesus, this team is unbeatable’. It’s so, so dangerous. So I think it was a real credit to the group this year that even though all of that was going on, we were on the money. We didn’t let that seep in.”
