Theatre is in the spotlight

CLASSIC THEATRE might be capable of outpointing stable-companion

Arcenfete in the Audrey Mcgrath Memorial Novice Chase in Wexford today.

Successful in two of her three starts over fences, the six-year-old King’s Theatre mare has looked a natural since being sent over the larger obstacles by Henry de Bromhead.

Winner of a bumper (in Tramore) and maiden hurdle (Listowel), Classic Theatre finished fourth to Venezia on her fencing bow at Clonmel and built on that when beating Schmidt easily at Limerick in July.

And she followed-up in a rated chase at Tipperary, beating Thirsty Work and Consharon Boy.

Last time, Theatre reverted to the flat and went close against Tornado Watch (rated 81 on the flat) in a Tramore maiden.

Back over fences and with 7lb claimer Harry Morgan bidding for a first success over fences, Classic Theatre gets the nod over Arcenfete, a one-time Champion Hurdle entry, which disappointed in his initial starts before making a successful start over fences at Roscommon last time, when beating Crezic.

The de Bromheadtrained Show And Go has landed handicap chases on this track (off 109) and Galway (off 117) this summer and, back over hurdles off a mark of 100, appeals in the Garry Flood Landscaping Handicap Hurdle.

Today’s meeting is confined to jockeys with less than 10 winners in the last 12 months. And Ger Fox should seize his opportunity on 109-rated Biddy The Boss in the three-mile M2 Construction Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Trained by Gavin Cromwell, the selection was beaten a half-length by Ashjan in a handicap hurdle at Tramore before being pipped by Present In Court in a maiden at Downpatrick last time. And she’s preferred to Joseph O’brien’s Boragh Beat, set to receive 11lb from the selection.
