Eddie looks ready to be character golf needs
EDDIE PEPPERELL is now in the big league.
For any golfer, winning on home soil is the ultimate and Eddie did that at the British Masters on Sunday.
As I said last week, it is special for the Irish guys going over to compete in these historic competitions in Britain. To be a local is even better.
The 27-year-old’s breakthrough success earlier in the season in Qatar was fantastic in itself – to do it again in the one year is a different level.
He is a fascinating character and one who is happy to air his innermost thoughts, which is rare with top-end sportspeople.
What he has to say gives a great insight into the rollercoaster of professional golf. I can empathise because I have also lived it.
Eddie is a well-read guy with an engaging personality. The big thing is that he can play, too. He is a joker – but one with game.
In his short career he has had many ups and downs. He has shared his sporting journey through his blog, which I can only recommend.
Now his golf is doing all the talking. He is up to 35th in the world, and his belief is starting to match his game – a potent mix.
I look forward to following his progress from here. I hope he continues to improve.
His style of golf is old school. No big power play that people cannot relate to – just great skill and accuracy, aligned with a golden touch when he is on song.
The game needs colourful individuals who connect to the fans. With Pepperell you have that in abundance.
The European Tour is always crying out for new stars to emerge. Eddie fits the bill.
