ROLLS ROYCE Wright says Keane is a quality gaffer in the mould of former boss Fergie
IAN WRIGHT insists Roy Keane possesses similar managerial traits to Alex Ferguson and he would have relished working under him. worked in a number one job since being sacked by Ipswich Town in 2011.
“I would love to have played with or under Roy,” said Wright.
“I think that he is someone that is like Alex Ferguson in the way he drives players.
“No one is as great as Sir Alex. However, the fact is Roy drives players to want to be the best that they can be. He is that guy without a doubt.”
Despite mounting pressure on Keane and manager Martin O’neill since last week’s defeat to Wales, Wright feels the pair are extracting the best from the limited pool of players available.
In fact, he believes O’neill will have no problem getting a Premier League job if and when he departs this international role. “Martin O’neill will always be in the mix for a vacancy because of his record,” he said.
“I am not saying he is going to be managing Man United but can do a job for a Premier League club, especially those around sixth to 12th places.”
Wright, meanwhile, insists Declan Rice will be turning down a chance to earn 100 caps if he snubs Ireland.
England want the teen but Wright added: “He can play for Ireland and maybe win 100 caps if he carries on progressing – or he can play for England, trying to break into a situation where England are at their most progressive for many, many years.”
