‘Video replays would have given us more points’

- BY ROBERT DUNFORD

MILLWALL boss Neil Harris feels his team would have benefited from video replay this season.

The Lions were undone by a controversial penalty before the break, as they crashed at Reading.

Mahlon Romeo looked to have cleanly tackled Tyler Blackett but referee David Webb saw otherwise.

Millwall remain in the bottom three, but Harris reckoned on-field reviews would help sides. “On the back of what we’ve seen this year, I know we would have benefited with a lot of points from VAR,” he said. “I’m getting slightly fed up of having to write reports about incidents.

“I couldn’t go to see the ref this time, you try not to lose your temper because at the end of the day they’re good men, they make decisions.

“So many managers and players now don’t really know what the rules are.”

Although Millwall had 11 shots on target, Reading carved out their second home win of the season.

Yakou Meite put the hosts ahead but Murray Wallace equalised for the Lions.

Away fans were left irate with the penalty Sam Baldock dispatched, and were sent home unhappy by a late Meite header.

Victory was a relief for Reading manager Paul Clement, who had been facing mounting pressure.

With Meite and third-choice keeper Anssi Jaakkola impressing, the Royals pulled themselves out of the drop zone.

But Clement (left) said: “Back-to-back wins in this league are so big because there are so many other competitive games.

“If you can go ‘win, win, and maybe draw’ your position in the table is totally different. “We’ve got to take advantage of this and see if we can do it again on Tuesday at Birmingham.

“The players were happy but were slumped in their chairs for the amount of effort they had to put in. “When we start to win more frequently we can start to enjoy them more.”
