FF to stand in North... or not?

- BY DAVID YOUNG BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN US Editor chris.bucktin@mirror.co.uk

FIANNA Fail announced its first-ever candidate to stand in the North – and hours later denied it.

Sorcha Mcanespy, already an independent councillor for Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, will contest next May’s local election and the party is expected to unveil other candidates.

The move comes amid speculation Fianna Fail might merge with the SDLP. The party’s director of elections Eamon O Cuiv TD and Senator Mark Daly attended an event in Co Tyrone.

Ms Mcanespy told the Press Association at the meeting last night: “I am delighted Deputy O Cuiv and Senator Daly agreed to come to Omagh this evening to launch my campaign following my invitation and have both agreed to be my campaign managers.”

However, the party’s Twitter account later posted: “Despite some reports, the party has made no decision with regard to contesting the 2019 NI local elections. The party is continuing its discussions with the SDLP.” SECURITY around some of Hollywood’s biggest stars has been increased as investigators fear a serial bomber is targeting anyone critical of Donald Trump.

It came after Robert De Niro was yesterday sent a suspected IED to his restaurant in Manhattan, New York.

A-listers Meryl Streep, Cher, Ben Stiller, Alec Baldwin and Arnold Schwarzenegger are all thought to be potential targets of the bomb maker, who has sent out eight devices already, so far.

The list includes British star John Oliver, who hosts the hugely successful Last Week Tonight, on HBO, on which he is highly critical of Trump.

Amazon owner Jeff Bezos is another potential target, as the bomb maker also appears to target those the President often speaks out against.

Yesterday police swarmed on De Niro’s Tribeca Grill at 5am as a device was found there, while another package was intercepted in the state of Delaware meant for former Vice President Joe Biden.

De Niro has been a vocal critic of the US leader and launched an expletive-laden attack on the President at the Tony Awards in June, during which he said, “f*** Trump”.

In response to the outburst, Trump called him a “very low IQ individual”.

A former FBI agent told the Mirror: “Anyone who has publicly spoken out against the President is clearly now a target. Those who have been most vocal should have... increased security.”

The bomber has already targeted the Obamas, the Clintons and CNN.

Trump has been accused of stirring up the anger behind the attacks. But the President, blaming the media, said: “A very big part of the anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST.”
