Mccreery filly found beautiful opportunity on polytrack

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

THE smart Belle Boyd could be the answer to the featured Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cooley Fillies Stakes as racing returns to the polytrack tonight.

The Willie Mccreery-trained filly has yet to win at Listed level and it’s well over a year since she recorded her sole success in a maiden at Naas.

However, she has since run a number of cracking races in defeat and she is good enough to make her mark at this level. Among her best efforts is a fine third in this race last year while she again showed up well on an all weather surface when just touched off at Chelmsford during the summer.

This filly wasn’t at her best when last seen at Killarney in July but a return to this surface should see her go close.

Aidan O’brien fields a number of contenders including Could It Be Love who hasn’t quite delivered on the promise of her second in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

She still commands plenty of respect as does stablemate

Most Gifted who has posted some nice efforts at this level without enjoying the best of luck in running.

The rest of the card looks typically tricky although Festine Plente stands out as being hard to beat in the nursery.

She began her career with two decent efforts in defeat before running out a smooth winner of a maiden at this track last month. The form of that last victory has since been given a major boost with the third-placed Coral Beach having gone on to win at Group 3 level last weekend.

This filly looks an improving sort and an initial rating of 83 might just underestimate her capabilities.

In the first of the 45-65 rated handicaps it is hard to look past the chances of the in form top weight Bittersweet.

The filly is unbeaten in two starts since coming from England and she has recorded both her victories at this track.

She won a maiden claimer over this course and distance last month but did better again when winning a handicap here three weeks ago. There could be more to come from her.

Noel Meade, left, has his flat string in fine form at present and the trainer could land the sprint handicap with the consistent Art Of Unity.

The three-year-old was a good third to the progressive Tide Of Time at Navan in the middle of the month and produced another good effort when third to Dash D’OR back at that track on Wednesday.
