KATIE IS EAGER TO FIND A VOLANTEER

- BY BERNARD O’NEILL

KATIE TAYLOR’S promoter Eddie Hearn is trying to entice Brazil’s Rose Volante into the ring with an offer she can’t refuse.

Taylor, the unified IBF/ WBA lightweight champion, is due to meet an as yet unnamed opponent at Madison Square Garden on the Canelo

Alvarez undercard on

December 15.

Current WBO champion Volante, who has turned down purses to fight the Bray woman, could be enticed into the ring in New York.

”We have tried and tried but she (Volante) appears to have carved out a nice little niche for herself in Brazil,” said Hearn.

“It’s a case of keeping making the offers and eventually you get to a number which they cannot turn down. In the end, it’s always down to money.”

Unbeaten Taylor defended her titles in Boston last Saturday on a landslide decision over the severely limited Cindy Serrano.

The Bray woman admitted she was bored in her 11th paid outing. In the seventh round, the Bray woman stood motionless with her hands behind her back and invited the Puerto Rican to hit her.

Alvarez is fighting Liverpool’s WBA supermiddle champion Rocky Fielding at the Garden.

Meanwhile, Mikaela Maher, who was trained by ex-irish head coach Billy Walsh (inset) in the amateur ranks with USA boxing, wants a fight with Taylor in 2019.
