Rashford’s dynamism is being deadened at United when he should be a dazzling star

-

my day-to-day boss once. Mourinho’s and Rashford’s relationship is a strictly working one yet the body language between the two is terrible. Rashford is getting a lot of game time under Mourinho but their match looks as illfitting as Romelu Lukaku’s shorts. Rashford should be as potent a weapon for United as he is becoming for England.

The pass he played for Anthony Martial’s go-ahead goal at Stamford Bridge last Saturday was an example of his instinctive excellence. Yet you get the feeling Rashford is only ever a step-over away from his next Mourinho rollocking.

The fearlessness he exudes under Southgate is missing under Mourinho (left, with his young striker).

A thought occurred when noticing Southgate in the Old Trafford directors’ box earlier this week. As absurd as it may seem, considering his track record as a club manager, UNDERSTANDABLY, there are plenty of people upset with a new rugby union calendar that might include more rest periods for top players but will stretch into 11 months. You’ve always strived for it but welcome to professional football’s world. If you want the bucks, you have to dance to money’s tune. IT was lovely to see the official social media feeds of the FA and England wishing Wayne Rooney a happy 33rd birthday. Maybe they will now give him the official send-off game his service to the country deserves. Southgate would not be the worst successor to Mourinho when it all, inevitably, implodes conclusively.

There is little chance United would even consider Southgate and, for the moment, they appear to be sticking with the retrogressive Mourinho.

He remains box-office, so count the dollars and take being schooled by Juventus on the chin.

But Rashford (left, after scoring against Spain) should not take it.

His dynamism, his directness, his drive, his delicious talent is being deadened by a dullard of a manager.

If Mourinho stays, Rashford the player would be best out of Old Trafford.

SOMETIMES, there is news that goes seriously under the radar.

Last week, it was reported the owner of a top Premier League football club – currently without a UK visa – was refused residency of another country because, according to the Swiss police, he was “suspected of money laundering” and had “presumed contacts with criminal organisations”.

But as long as he keeps Eden Hazard at the Bridge, everyone is happy.
