Dozy Westlife ticket touts...
Greedy sellers try to flog westlife seats for €900 before gigs sell out
CLUELESS ticket touts were flogging tickets for Westlife’s Croke Park reunion concerts for as much as €900 yesterday – even before the gigs sell out.
The boyband’s comeback concert in the Dublin stadium on July 5 went on sale yesterday with the group announcing a second show for July 6 shortly afterwards due to demand.
On Ebay one seller listed two VIP passes for an asking price of €906 – almost three times the original value.
Another posted two seats with a price tag of €566 and more were listed on Viagogo and Done Deal.
But there was still availability for both concerts on Ticketmaster’s offical website with all passes expected to sell out this morning. Speaking to the Irish Mirror yesterday, a Fine Gael TD said he was “frustrated” to see the problem arise again. Noel Rock, who was one of the TDS who proposed the anti-touting legislation which was approved by the Cabinet in July, said the Government needs to put the law into action. Deputy Rock said: “It’s extraordinary what people are doing to hard-pressed fans. Obviously the enthusiasm for the concert is huge.
“A lot of people I know want to go to it and a lot of them are being denied the opportunity to go at a fair price because people are snapping them up with the intention of reselling them.
“What we need to see now is for the minister to take the action that was promised by the Cabinet in July and progress the anti-touting legislation and get it done.
“I’m very frustrated by these delays. It’s Westlife today, next it will be Fleetwood Mac which will definitely sell out – it will all happen again.
“We’ll see tickets selling for two, three and four times face value immediately and it’s ridiculous.”
Meanwhile, some Westlife fans were left heartbroken after they failed to get tickets despite thinking they had secured them online.
Many complained they had successfully selected seats, however, when they went to confirm payment on Ticketmaster, a server error released them.
One upset fan took to Twitter to hit out at the website over the apparent mistake.
They wrote: “I had x5 tickets for Westlife in my basket at 9am, the app would not allow me to pay (as seen below) and then the tickets were suddenly released from my basket? How is this fair??”
