Man Utd star Mcilroy flogs FA Cup gongs
Sammy Mcilroy FORMER Manchester United star Sammy Mcilroy has sold his FA Cup medals for €38,000.
The ex-northern Ireland player’s three medals were snapped up by a private collector in Hong Kong.
They included a winner’s medal from United’s 2-1 defeat of Liverpool in 1977, and runners-up gongs against Southampton in 1976 and Arsenal in 1979.
They were sold by Stacey’s Auctioneers and Valuers of Rayleigh, Essex, on Monday.
Dave Alexander of Stacey’s said: “Having spoken with Sammy I think he’s pleased. I don’t know if he has plans for the money.”
Mcilroy, 64, joined Manchester United in 1971 as Sir Matt Busby’s last ever signing. He made 419 appearances for the club.
