Dangerous and behind bars at last

SEX beast Eoin Berkley deserves every second of his 14 years behind bars.

The depraved 25-year-old put his teenage victim through an ordeal from which she may never recover.

The Spanish student was brutally raped and held captive for almost 24 hours last summer and was lucky to escape alive.

During those traumatic 21 hours, she was drugged, assaulted and raped by the sick thug – only managing to escape after he fell asleep.

And learning that Berkley fantasised about being shot dead by the ERU just makes him an even more dangerous threat to the public.

If he has no regard for his own life, why should he show empathy towards others?

The mitigating factors during his trial involved his early guilty plea, the fact he grew up in care and other adverse issues from his childhood.

Traumatic as those early life experiences may have been, they in no way justify any of his barbaric actions against this teenager.

His mental health issues offer zero excuse, either. To treat another human so cruelly – and then smile as your sentence is handed down – points to a truly deranged young man.

It is not surprising investigators have deemed him one of the most dangerous rapists they have ever dealt with.

Berkley will spend many years locked up but his victim will carry the scars for a lifetime.
