WINNING FORMULA Accelerate is on power

- BY ROBERT HYNES

BACK ACCELERATE can speed to success in the Breeders’ Cup Classic in Kentucky tonight.

American trainers have dominated this race since its inauguration in 1984, with European runners only tasting success twice (Raven’s Pass for John Gosden in 2008 and Arcangues for Andre Fabre in 1993).

Bob Baffert has won this prestigious contest more than any other trainer and looks to have a strong chance of doing so again with de Triomphe for the second year in a row last month

Talismanic won the contest 12 months ago and Aidan O’brien runs MAGICAL and HUNTING HORN in a contest he has tasted success in six times.

But if Enable brings her A-game here, she will not be beaten.

WILD ILLUSION could be another European winner on the night when she runs in the Filly and Mares race.

Charlie Appleby’s runner has been successful in her last two runs having been consistent for her entire season which began with a fourth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket in May.

Another horse who could run well in this contest at a price is PRINCESS YAIZA for Meath trainer Gavin Cromwell.

She won a Group 2 in France last time after some placed efforts on Irish soil. Andrea Atzeni is on board having ridden her to her last success.

both fancied.

But Accelerate has won a number of his races emphatically and, for me, is the one to beat for a jockey and trainer looking for their first success in the race in Joel Rosario and John W Sadler.

The Breeders’ Cup

Turf is a race Europeans have a much better record in and ENABLE can extend that before the Classic goes to post.
