BAD BLOW FOR BOHS AS DUO GO

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

BOHEMIANS have lost their first-choice centrehalf partnership with Ian Morris and Dan Casey departing.

Morris, 31, has become Shelbourne’s head coach with immediate effect, while 21-year-old Casey has joined Cork City on a two-year deal.

Moving on from Cork City’s FAI Cup final loss on Sunday, John Caulfield expressed his delight at adding Casey to his squad.

“Dan has had a major impact with Bohemians,” he said. “He’s a young player back from England and made his mark in the league in the last year and a half.

“We need ambitious, hungry players and he fits that bill.” Casey (inset), who was at Sunderland as a teenager, played an influential role in Bohs’ impressive top half finish. “I’m delighted,” he said. “This is a huge club and a good move for me. “European football is a huge bonus and something I’m dying to experience. As a kid, playing in Europe is something you want to do, and I am looking forward to being part of it.”

Morris, meanwhile, was identified as the man to succeed Owen Heary at Shelbourne after Drogheda’s Tim Clancy turned down the job.

Morris, who was successful as Bohs’ head of youth development, said: “Our aim is to get promoted next year. This will be reflected in the players and staff that are committing to our club for next year and beyond.

“I’m really looking forward to immersing myself in the role and am excited about what the future holds for the club.”
