Cockroaches found living in fast food restaurant
FOOD safety officers closed a popular takeaway restaurant after it was found to be infested with cockroaches.
Tasty Hut on Dorset Street in Dublin’s north inner city was shut on October 2. It will not reopen until December 12.
The latest report by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland said there was “widespread evidence” of a cockroach infestation on the premises.
It found live insects under and behind a freestanding drinks fridge, behind a bin in a wash-up area and to the side of the grease trap.
They were also spotted crawling on a wall in the main dining area and taken from used boxes in a cupboard.
The owners were told to remove all indications of previous pest activity as well as all grease and food accumulations and to deep clean the premises.
They must also arrange ongoing inspections to ensure the infestation does not reoccur.
Other Dublin locations served with closure orders included Mi Thai in Stoneybatter and Diner Thai & Chinese Takeaway in Ongar.
Both have now reopened.
Premises in counties Louth, Limerick, Cork and Kerry were also served with closure orders.
And prohibition orders were given to premises in counties Kerry and Wexford. been
