Yellow alert as winds to reach 110kmh

THE entire country is on yellow alert today as wind speeds of more than 110kmh are forecast.

Met Eireann issued the warning yesterday morning.

Gales are expected to be strongest in the southwest and in high areas.

The alert in Munster and Connacht is valid from 4am through to 3pm.

Elsewhere it begins at 8am, lasting until 7pm.

Met Eireann said: “Friday will be a wet, very windy and blustery day. Top temperatur­es of 9C to 13C, coolest in the north.”

There is a risk of thunder tonight as the heavy rain continues to fall.
