Brave Babs is on tap form

- BY TOM BRYANT Head of Showbiz

Star does tap turn on stage during theatre tour BEAMING Dame Barbara Windsor proves she is still showbiz royalty as she enjoys a night as a West Ender.

Husband Scott Mitchell took the Eastenders legend, 81, to watch pal Bonnie Langford in 42nd Street.

And during the interval Babs, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014, got a standing ovation from the audience after sneaking into the Royal Box.

She then tap-danced on stage during a private tour of the theatre.

Scott, 55, said: “It was a wonderful day. The public are the warmest people in the world to Barbara.

“It gives her such pleasure chatting to everyone and seeing them all and she never expects that reaction. Then she did an impromptu dance routine on the stage after the show. It’s like two different people With hubby Scott, Adam & Bev once she enters a theatre. The old Babs emerges for a while. It’s wonderful to see those moments.”

They were at the Theatre Royal on Drury Lane with actor Adam Woodyatt – who is Ian Beale in the BBC1 soap – and wife Bev.

Adam, 50, said: “During the interval we sneaked her into Royal Box and the response from the auditorium was so moving.

“After the show she was even tap dancing. A day I will remember.”

Scott is running the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon to help Dementia Revolution.

He said earlier this year: “Despite all the changes in Barbara, there is still so much of her there.

“Her humour, wit and care for others, for example. It is her humour I love the most – we have always laughed a lot.” Sponsor Scott
