Bank worker stops ‘€23k BT scammer’

- BY SHEENA MCSTRAVICK

Chief Supt Walls POLICE have praised quick-thinking Ulster Bank staff after they prevented a woman from being scammed out of €23,000.

Officers are urging the public to be vigilant following the phone hoax in Lurgan, Co Armagh. earlier this week in which a man claimed to be from BT.

PSNI chief supt Simon Walls said: “Thankfully this scam was stopped just in time by the bank and no money was lost.

“Credit to the member of the bank staff for spotting what was going on.

“Our advice is simple. If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. No matter how good the offer is, or how convincing these cold callers sound, be wary of any individual who cold calls you.”
