Hurl of a lot more respect
THE disciplinary problems witnessed in recent club football games doesn’t happen in hurling, because there is more respect among teams.
That is the view of Down champions Ballycran joint boss Michael Braniff, whose team is bidding for a first Ulster title in 25 years on Sunday against Antrim champions Cushendall.
Football games in Tyrone, Down, Derry and Kerry received widespread criticism in recent weeks while Saturday night’s Ulster club SFC clash between Coalisland and Crossmaglen is now the subject of an Ulster Council investigation.
Braniff said: “I’ve never come across anything like it in hurling.
“I think because it’s such a manly sport there is more respect in hurling between teams.
“Very rarely, if ever, in hurling will you see the type of scenes we’ve seen in club football recently.
“I don’t see it ever creeping into hurling. A lot of the cynical play in football you don’t see, like the diving.”
