MILLIONS of Americans were under threat last night as six fast-moving killer fires ripped through California.

At least five people have died in the “destroyed” town of Paradise and more than 150,000 people have had to flee.

At its height, one of the blazes was “growing uncontrollably” at a rate of 80 football pitches a minute.

Celebrities were among those ordered to flee A-lister haunts Malibu and Calabasas.

Kim Kardashian said: “Just landed back home and had one hour to pack up and evacuate our home. I pray everyone is safe.” In all, more Larry Murphy than 20 million people were under red flag alerts last night – facing a threat of “extreme fire behaviour”. One blaze – Camp Fire, in Butte County, in the north of the state – had grown to 70,000 acres yesterday. The five Deirdre vanished. It is understood they were working in Kildare on the day the teenager went missing.

A source said: “Larry Murphy is living in the UK and gardai have travelled there to interview him.

“Police have been monitoring him but a critical part of progressing the investigation is to talk to the suspect.

“Larry Murphy’s intention is to never come back to Ireland – he is hiding in the UK where no one knows him and that’s where he wants to stay. He has a girlfriend there and is living a quiet life.”

Gardai have spoken to Murphy and have asked him about Deirdre. Sources said their investigation is progressing but they do not have enough to make bodies in the Butte County town of Paradise had been found in gutted vehicles in the same area of town.

Sheriff-coroner Kory Honea said: “Due to the burn injuries, identification could not be immediately made.”

Paradise resident Whitney Vaughn said that as people were driving out of town many abandoned their vehicles, “running with babies and kids”.

She added: “Someone rammed our an arrest. Deirdre was 19 when she vanished from her home in Roseberry, Newbridge, Co Kildare, on July 28, 1998.

Gardai upgraded her disappearance to a murder after the Force’s Serious Crime Review Team carried out a detailed examination of the investigation file.

Officers have generated 3,000 separate lines of enquiry and 2,500 statements have been taken and cross-referenced.

In recent months they also met with people with new information.

And they have reinterviewed others who spoke to them previously. Sources vehicle. There were no firefighters in sight and I am hoping all of these people made it out.”

Yesterday worried keepers at LA Zoo were beginning to evacuate the animals.

Woolsey Fire, which is threatening Ventura and Los Angeles counties, had grown to 12,000 acres by morning.

The blaze is one of two burning just miles from the site of Wednesday night’s gun tragedy in Thousand Oaks.

The other uncontrollable blaze – Hill Fire – torched 10,000 acres in six hours.

Jason Bauer helped his parents flee Bell Canyon in Ventura County. He said: “The flames just came out of nowhere.” stressed there is a long way to go until this case can be solved but they believe the new evidence is “significant and critically important”.

Murphy has been linked to the disappearance of several young women in Ireland.

He is a suspect in the case of missing women Annie Mccarrick, 26, and Jo Jo Dullard, 21, as well as Deirdre.

He was freed from jail in 2010 after serving 10 years for a brutal sex attack and attempted murder of a woman in the Wicklow mountains.
