We moved into an old bungalow and had a concrete bathroom floor skimmed with lino over the top. Now we are getting pink and gray patches showing on the lino. Any ideas? Linda Parker, by email

It’s dampness caused by the concrete sweating. You ideally need to re-lay the floor with a damp-proof course, but the easiest solution is to simply lay porcelain tiles directly on the concrete as these are completely waterproof.

QI have used bleach on my toilet and now there are stains running down the back of it. Is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I thought bleach was supposed to clean the toilet not make it worse!

This should not happen and the bowl is faulty. I would immediately contact the supplier/merchant who sold it and get it replaced.
