‘Our players will not forget’

Irish Daily Mirror - - SPORTS -

ENGLAND’S players have visited First world war battlegrounds and will wear special commemorative jerseys at Elland road tomorrow, because we wanted to give them a connection to the sacrifices made 100 years ago.

You can sometimes lose sight of how many men and women gave their lives so we can live ours the way that we do.

we took the squad to Passchendaele and Ypres last month to make it real for the players, and you could see when they stood for the Last Post that the connection to the past was there.

You could see the lads thinking that those soldiers were the same age as them, and thousands upon thousands of them died on those fields.

we can’t forget what people did for our country and we want to play our part in making sure this generation passes that on to the next.
