IT’S A HOL NEW BALL GAME FOR HORNETS

- BY MIKE WALTERS

JAVI GRACIA returns to the scene of his inauspicious baptism in English football relieved that Watford are much-changed – but warning that his side face another grim battle.

Hornets head coach Gracia (above) began his reign at Vicarage Road with a dismal 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Southampton in January, culminating in defender Jose Holebas engaging the away support in heated debate after the final whistle.

Holebas – six bookings already this season – has yet to find the cure for volcanic squabbling, but Gracia built last season’s path to survival after inheriting an injuryriddled squad from Marco Silva.

“I remember my first game – we needed more time to learn about the players and about the team. But by working day by day, and with very good commitment from the players, we were able to get good results,” he said.

Skipper Troy Deeney returns to the squad after a month out with a minor tear in a hamstring tendon, but he may have to settle for a place on the bench.
