Shane: RTE tried to take us down a peg or two...

Lynch’s tirade at Boyzone ‘dance’ clip

- BY WILLIAM DUNNE

BITTER manband singer Shane Lynch has slammed RTE for airing Boyzone’s infamous dance clip from The Late Late Show.

Viewers were left stunned on Friday night as he stuck his middle finger up to the camera and told Ryan Tubridy to “shove it [the clip] up your f ***** g hole”.

He told a radio station on Monday night: “I arrive in this TV studio called RTE... and they decide from the beginning of that interview to try and take us down a peg or two.

“Like we f ***** g need it. We don’t need that kind of s**t.

“The bottom line is I was just disappointed in the fact we were very young and very innocent.” The singer arrived late to the Late Late studio on Friday after missing a flight from the UK.

The 42-year-old joined bandmates Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy and Mikey Graham after the trio performed their new single Because without him.

He expressed his disappointment in the programme for showing the 1993 footage from Gay Byrne’s show. He added: “We’ve gone on to do amazing things. And what are you going to do? Try and chop us down?

“I’ll tell you what. Anyone that has tried to chop me down I’ve cut them off and told them how I didn’t like it. I like Ryan Tubridy. But if you want to chop me down and try and put me in a place, I’m going to come out fighting.”

RTE confirmed on Monday it received 14 calls and 28 emails over his tirade but no formal complaint over the F-word.

The Dubliner also insisted he’s not the “bad boy” he is perceived to be.

He acknowledged viewers may have been offended by his use of bad language but insisted that children should be in bed at that time of night.

He told The Niall Boylan Show on Classic Hits FM: “Some comments ‘That’s disgraceful, there are kids watching’. The kids should be in f ***** g bed at that time.

“If it’s not The Late Late Toy Show, put them in bed.”
