third of jobs at risk from digital revolution
A THIRD of Irish jobs are at risk of being affected by digitalisation, it has been claimed.
A new report by the Expert Group On Future Skills Needs found the changes will occur within five years and those under most threat are in the lower levels of education.
But the group, which advises the Government on current and future skills needs in the economy, said despite causing challenges it will also open up opportunities for many.
Sectors which are facing change include agriculture, retail, hospitality and manufacturing.
The report predicts employment in every occupational group will grow over the timeframe outlined.
However, it also said the adoption of digital technologies will lead to a slowdown in employment growth.
The group believes there will be many opportunities for people to upskill within their current jobs.
The report added the capital is the location least at risk from automation, with the border regions and the Midlands thought to be under most threat.
