Xmas comes early for €6.5m lottery winner

Online player nets rollover jackpot

CHRISTMAS has come early for one lucky punter who won Saturday’s €6,589,886 Lotto jackpot.

Online players are being urged to check their numbers after the winner bought their ticket on the internet.

This is the sixth jackpot to be won online since 2009, with a Leinster syndicate scooping a jackpot of €7.1million in February.

Speaking on the latest win National Lottery chief Dermot Griffin said: “What a start to the festive season for a lucky winner somewhere in Ireland who bought their ticket online.

“This latest €6.5million Lotto jackpot win is our 13th of 2018.

“All in all our six online Lotto jackpot winners have won a combined €27,252,015. We are asking all of our players who play online or through the National Lottery app to check their tickets.

“And if it is you who has matched all six numbers, contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 01 836 444.

“We will make arrangemen­ts for you to collect your prize in the National Lottery winner’s room – just in time for Christmas.” The numbers were 9, 15, 17, 24, 41, 43 and the bonus was Meanwhile, the Lotto has launched a new voice assistant applicatio­n which will allow players to check their numbers by speaking to their device.

Mr Griffin added: “It is estimated approximat­ely 20% of web searches will done by voice by the year 2020 so this is clearly a fast-growing technology.” National Lottery spokesman Robert Magee said they do not have access to computer data showing where in the country Saturday’s winning golden ticket was purchased.

He added: “We’re not privy to that informatio­n due to data protection policies.”
