Councillor ‘kicked man in face’

-

A MAN claimed he was kicked in the face by a county councillor and suffered a broken nose and three smashed teeth.

John O’donnell went on trial yesterday charged with assault causing harm to two men.

Alleged victim Seamus O’donnell gave evidence against the Donegal county councillor at Letterkenny Circuit Court.

The 37-year-old, from Kilmacrennan, is charged with assault causing harm to Emmet Gallagher, now 22, at the Sultan Takeaway in the early hours of February 23, 2015.

He is also charged with assault causing harm to 29-year-old Seamus O’donnell at Gortlee, Letterkenny.

John O’donnell has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Seamus O’donnell told the court he had to have his nose “packed” on three different occasions after being sent to Sligo General Hospital from Letterkenny University Hospital the day after the attack.

He claims he approached John O’donnell after his friend Emmett was punched.

He admitted asking O’donnell: “What the f*** you hit the wee boy for?”

John O’donnell’s barrister John Berry put it to Mr Gallagher there was alcohol taken on the night, adding: “There was drink involved as you said. You wouldn’t be saying that if there was a single sherry or a small glass of wine involved.” Mr Gallagher agreed.

The case is expected three days. to Mr did last
